Support for scientists with family and care obligations during the corona period

"Time packages" for science at the HfMT Hamburg (2nd phase)

Program as part of the cross-university project "Close the Gap" for female* scientists at the University, the University Medical Center, the Technical University, Hafen City University and the University of Music and Drama, funded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg

The "Time Packages" program for academics at the HfMT Hamburg offers female doctoral candidates and academics (postdocs, mid-level staff) at the HfMT - especially those with family responsibilities - as well as academics who can prove that they have family responsibilities, the opportunity to take 1 to max. 5 "time packages" for the implementation of a scientific or artistic-scientific project in the amount of 1500 euros per month.
The program is intended to counter the tendency for women to increasingly fall back into traditional role models due to the Corona crisis, to cope with a disproportionate amount of family responsibilities and to postpone their scientific projects. The Hamburg Ministry of Science, Research, Equal Opportunities and Districts (BWFGB) has provided the HfMT with funding of 30,000 euros for this purpose. The cross-university support program "Close the Gap" offers participants networking events and evaluates the program.
The "time packages" are to be used to finance measures that support the scientists in their publishing activities, such as

- as fellowship months to work on dissertations or other scientific texts (in combination, for example, with a requested special leave);

- for the support of teaching by lecturers or assistants;

- for renting a workroom outside the family home;

- for additional childcare costs or household help;

- as a printing cost subsidy for the publication of scientific papers published during this period. for the publication of academic work published during this period;

- as a grant for the realization of artistic-scientific projects within the framework of a dissertation;

- for the financing of possible offers from the joint pool of the inter-university collaborative project "Close the Gap" (e.g. proof-reading, work retreat, etc.).

The duration of the program is divided into two phases: The 1st phase runs until December 31, 2021. The second phase runs from January 1 to December 31, 2022.
Written applications for the second phase with a project description and financial plan for the use of the requested funds can be submitted to the Office of the Equal Opportunity Commissioner from October 1 to November 30, 2021.
There are again 10 "time packages" available for the second phase. One to a maximum of 5 "time packages" can be applied for per person. Applications from applicants with family responsibilities will be given priority (please enclose birth certificates of children).
Participants undertake to submit a report on the progress of their scientific project and the use of the funds at the end of their project period. They should also take the opportunity to participate in the cross-university networking events and in the evaluation by the joint project.
