WORK MODE
Dear friends of the HfMT,
In October, we were loud and extroverted - just in time for the start of the season. In our November newsletter, we want to get you in the mood for work with us.
We think, research, experiment.
We invent, create and shape.
We reflect, question, reject, start anew and give you a few opportunities to participate in the coming month. To experience how perfection is striven for, how technique, sound and expression are tested, how critical issues are confronted and space for reflection is created:
In conversation with the Feminale team about female composers who were persecuted by the Nazi regime, at the interactive project presentations of the laboratories on the open day at the ligeti center, as a guest listener at international master classes or at the Kunst.Macht.Menschlichkeit.
Come and see us and experience the processes behind our students' outstanding achievements.
As always,
Your HfMT
GETTING INTO CONVERSATION WITH THE FEMINALE
The Feminale team doesn't want to wait until April and thus until the fourth edition of the women composers' festival and is therefore organizing the Feminale Autumn Day for the first time. The initiators welcome their guests with sophisticated content and an intelligently managed dramaturgy. As always with the Feminale, the appeal lies not only in the special selection of works, but also in the shared experience and personal communication.
Thematically, the day revolves around the commemoration of the November pogroms during the Nazi era and will feature female composers who were persecuted by the Nazi regime as well as works by Hamburg-born Fanny Hensel. The audience will be greeted with coffee and cookies and between the two concerts there will be space to discuss what they have heard.
COME - BE CURIOUS - TRY IT OUT - AT THE LIGETI CENTER
Laboratoriesfor innovationand social developmentthrough the transfer of ideas... This is what the ligeti center stands for.
In practical terms, we can imagine it as a place where innovation enthusiasts from different disciplines come together every day to work, experiment, collaborate and have a keen interest in bringing their research to society, making it accessible and applicable, and making contact.
And this is exactly what will become tangible on November 22, when the ligeti center opens its doors under the motto "Innovation you can touch". Everyone who is curious to experience research, art and innovation up close is invited. After a joint kick-off and second breakfast, a variety of program items await us and you can spend an exciting day here!
LOOK AND ACT
Abuse of power is a serious and, unfortunately, very present and difficult issue at arts universities, which we must address consistently and consciously and for which we have been developing action plans for many years.
On November 27, all universities of music nationwide will focus on the topic of power in the university context and organize the joint day of action Art.Power.Humanity, which we as HfMT have proclaimed an academic day (dies academicus).
It will be a day of collective reflection on power, responsibility and change in university culture. Lectures, performances and exhibitions will open up real and ideal stages for exchange, reflection and artistic perspectives: whether the "(H)Ausstellung Architektur Macht Struktur", "SIRIUS 6.0 - Ein Flügel, der Hände wachsen lässt" or "Von Angst zu Frieden - Eine Stimme in vier Bildern". With around 20 individual events, the day offers a wide range of insights into a central social issue. Guests are cordially invited to join in the discussion and take part.
GOING DEEP
Master classes are a regular part of our artistic training and enrich the general teaching process. Here, a change of perspective is made possible. The invited masters present different approaches, styles and techniques and students have the opportunity to work together for several days. Such courses often last 2-3 days, the students listen to each other and at the end there is a final presentation or a concert. Selected master classes are also open to the public.
A guest in November:
According to a colleague in the vocal department, François Le Roux is "the most important living protagonist of the Mélodie Française". For three consecutive days, he will be working with the vocal students and pianists on the Master's degree course in Lied Accompaniment, devoting himself in particular to the French song repertoire. The doors are consistently open so that you as a guest can participate in this intensive process.
Masterclass with François Le Roux from November 7-9
Prof. Pelin Halkacı Akın, violinist and head of the string instruments department at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul, has been invited to take part in a masterclass and a joint chamber music project. The exchange will conclude with an encounter concert with professors and students on November 23
The US-American coloratura soprano Vivica Genaux has already been a frequent guest. She is a leading interpreter of the baroque bel canto repertoire and will work with the students in preparation for performances of the opera Artaserse by Johann Adolf Hasse in February 2026. Students admire her "energy and joy of making music".
