Holger Nell was born in Renchen, Germany and began playing the drums self-taught at the age of 5

Studies:

• Percussions de Strasbourg / France (Claude Ricou and Gabriel Bouchet)

• Freiburg College of Music (Prof. Bernhard Wulff, Prof. Franz Lang)

• Mannes College of Music / USA (Vernel Fournier, Joe Morello)

• Manhattan School of Music / USA (Master of Music)

Holger Nell played with Clark Terry, Ray Brown, Joe Lovano, Tim Hagans, Dave Liebman, Georg Garzone, Ben Monder and the big bands of RIAS Berlin, NDR Hamburg, HR Frankfurt, SWR Stuttgart, BBC London, Peter Herbolzheimer, Bobby Burgess and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Freiburg Percussion Ensemble, Kurt Masur

1996 - 2006 Lecturer in jazz percussion at the Hanns Eisler University of Music Berlin

His enthusiasm for and involvement with various musical traditions, the arts, philosophy, architecture and sports characterise a customised teaching concept in which essential fundamentals, the development and shaping of musicality and the promotion of potential, self-knowledge and vision of the individual student take centre stage.
