Lebenslauf

Marcio Doctor (b. 1965 Buenos Aires, Argentina) studied drum-set, percussion and piano in Buenos Aires. Further ethnic drumming studies with Mark Nauseef, Jamey Haddad, Glen Velez and Trilok Gurtu.

Recordings and performances with artists such as Carla Bley, the Brecker Brothers, Vince Mendoza, María João and Mario Laginha, Cory Henry, John Scofield, Richard Bona, Jacob Collier, Joe Lovano, Quincy Jones, Joshua Redman, Peter Erskine, Jim Beard, Metropole Orkest, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Alon Yavnai, WDR-Bigband, Ensemble Absolute, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.

Director of percussion studies at the "Hamburg School of Music”, associate professor for Percussion Studies at the "University of Music and Drama" in Hamburg.

Guest lecturer at the Royal College of Music in London, the Musik Akademie Basel, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, Scotland, Siena Jazz in Italy, Hochschule für Musik Osnabrück, Pop-Akademie Mannheim, Musique Conservatoire in Toulon, France.

Since 1995 member of the NDR-Big Band (The Hamburg Radio Jazz Orchestra) with which he has recorded and toured worldwide with Maria Schneider, Al Jarreau, Michael Gibbs, João Bosco, Bill Frisell, Bobby McFerrin, Michael Moore, Gwilym Simcock, Kenny Wheeler, Pat Metheny and Jeff Ballard among many others.

Composition and production of soundtrracks for radio features, films, theatre and TV-documentaries for the ARD, PRI, PRX, NPR, WDR, ARTE and CANAL+.

  • Grammy Award in 2006 for his participation as a soloist on the album "Some Skunk Funk" Randy Brecker with Michael Brecker and the WDR-Bigband arr./cond. by Vince Mendoza.
