With the signing of the cooperation agreement by the presidents Prof. Elmar Lampson of the HfMT Hamburg and Prof. Dr. Micha Teuscher of the HAW Hamburg on May 28, 2019, the foundation stone was laid for the research training group KiSS - Kinetics in Sound & Space, which is funded by the Hamburg State Research Foundation. KiSS - Kinetics in Sound & Space was laid.

The cooperation project between the two universities will run for the next 3.5 years within the framework of artistic and scientific research and will create a total of six quality positions for researchers, each of whom will be enrolled in one of the doctoral degree programs (Dr. phil. / Dr. sc. mus.) at the HfMT Hamburg.

KiSS focuses on the dynamics of spatial sounds and sound spaces. At the center of the work is the exploration of the dispositives of the (digital) stage: This includes the spectrum of purely physical movement sequences, as they are known from dance and theater, to virtual spatial sound movements, which are made possible by sophisticated computer simulations. These extremes are mediated, for example, by motion capture technologies that translate real movements into data flows. This enables hybrid forms of stage art that allow an innovative and immersive experience on the stage of the 21st century.

Collaboration in research and teaching

The plan is for close networking and collaboration between the two locations as well as an exchange of technologies, knowledge and research approaches. At the same time, the Research Training Group will establish an international position and network with the aim of advancing the field of artistic research, which is still in its infancy in the German university landscape, in terms of methodology. The (artistic and academic) lecturers involved are

Prof. Dr. Georg Hajdu (HfMT Hamburg)
Prof. Thomas Görne (HAW Hamburg)
Prof. Dr. Jacob Sello (HfMT Hamburg)
Prof. Dr. Nina Noeske (HfMT Hamburg)
Prof. Sabina Dhein (HfMT Hamburg)
Prof. Dr. Julius Heinicke (HfMT Hamburg)
Dr. Rama Gottfried (HfMT Hamburg)

The university management would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the six holders of the qualification positions on their acceptance with their respective research projects at the KiSS Research Training Group:

Alessandro Anatrini (Music Technology/Notation, HfMT Hamburg): Signal to space: Live acoustic transfigurations

Dr. Gregoy Beller (Innovation Lab, HfMT Hamburg): Natural Interfaces for Computer Music

Kristin Kuldkepp (Aesthetics of sound design in the virtual spatial sound field, HAW Hamburg): Musical gesture in the interactive music systems for free improvisation - research on embodied music cognition

Jacob Richter (Musicology, HfMT Hamburg): The aesthetic perception and design of music and sound design in virtual space

Elise Schobeß (Music Theatre, HfMT Hamburg): La vache qui rit A secularization of the sacred cow. Score goes post-dramatic.

Stefan Troschka (Perception of auditory scenes in the virtual sound field, HAW Hamburg): Investigations into the perception and aesthetics of virtual-spatial sound scenes
