Research

The question "Why did music history happen exactly like this and not differently?" has become a fundamental element of musicology that critically reflects on the canon. Approaches from gender studies or postcolonial studies, philosophy, cultural, social and media studies, among others, have a stimulating effect here. In addition to the individual research projects of the academic and teaching staff at the HfMT from the early modern period to the present day, two projects financed by third-party funds should be mentioned in particular, which arose from impulses of this kind: As early as 2003, the HfMT launched the online lexicon MUGIwhich is being continuously developed. 2018 also saw the start of the Innovative University research projectMusic history online 1945-1990: GDR and FRG. The musicology program is supplemented by an annual lecture series in the winter semester (with guests from Germany and abroad and practical music components) as well as international symposia on changing topics.
