Guest students

At the Hamburg University of Music and Drama, you are warmly welcome to enroll as a guest student for continuing education in specific fields of study. This program does not lead to a degree; you will participate in courses as a guest.

To participate in courses, you must obtain the consent of the instructor whose course you wish to attend. This consent must be submitted along with your guest student application.

Auditor status is not available for one-on-one or small-group lessons.

The application must be submitted by April 1 for the summer semester and by October 1 for the winter semester.

Guest Student Application

The guest student application is available under “Important Documents” and must be submitted, completed and signed, to studium@hfmt.hamburg.de.

Please list the courses you wish to attend in the application and attach the following documents:

• a tabular resume (including details of your educational background and, if applicable, previous musical or performing arts activities)
• Passport photo
• Consent from the instructors involved for the courses listed in the application

Once the guest student application has been approved, payment instructions for the guest student fee will be provided during the semester. The fee is 130.00 per semester.

Notice: Starting in the 2026/27 winter semester, the guest student fee is expected to be 200,- Euro.

Students from other -state- universities in Hamburg who wish to attend courses at the HfMT Hamburg as part of their studies, e.g. at the University of Hamburg, must register as secondary listeners at the HfMT Hamburg.

As students of other -state- universities in Hamburg are not considered guest auditors in the sense of the guest auditor regulations of the University of Music and Drama Hamburg, the participation in courses is not subject to fees in the sense of the fee regulations for administrative and user fees of the University of Music and Drama Hamburg.
