Singing

Basic musical knowledge, a stable technique, extensive knowledge of styles and repertoire in different languages and an instinct for one's own voice are the basis on which a singer's personality can develop. In the Department of Singing you can learn all of this, not only in the central individual singing and repertoire study lessons, but also together with your fellow students in many different group lessons. The cooperation with the Theaterakademie, which is unique in Germany, enables young singers not only to take part in professionally supervised opera class productions, but also to gain their first stage experience in joint projects with young directing and dramaturgy students. There are also numerous collaborations outside the university, including with the Hamburg Ballet, the Hamburg State Opera, Lüneburg Theatres, the Eutin Festival and many more.

Masterclasses with renowned singers are held annually for students of all singing classes. Previous guests have included Edda Moser, Brigitte Fassbaender, Christiane Iven and Philippe Jaroussky. There are also pre-professional workshops on performance training, auditions etc. Numerous competitions within and outside the HfMT, Germany and Europe call for participation every year.
