Master director

The two-year Master's degree program in Directing with a focus on musical theater or acting enables students to deepen their artistic research through individual profile analysis and learning agreements. Two projects are planned during the course of the program: a workshop production with an experimental character and a major final project.

Various options are available for the final production after the second year:

• In musical theater, either a world premiere can be developed in cooperation with the composition and dramaturgy courses or a work from the repertoire can be reinterpreted.
• The spectrum for directing drama ranges from devised theater, the development of an original evening of theater, to the reinterpretation of a literary model.

Professionalization in dealing with the professional theater field:

• Regular round tables with representatives:inside of different positions at theaters
• In addition to the Kulturfabrik Kampnagel and the Forum of the HfMT, we strive to cooperate with various theaters that are willing to produce master productions and include them in their repertoire.

The Theaterakademie works closely with the various courses of study at its own university and is constantly expanding its cooperation with other universities in and outside Hamburg. This applies to stage design, costume design, composition, musicians and orchestras, players and singers and others.

Exchanges with European theater schools are an integral part of the program.

The offer is open both to those who are looking for an initial orientation for their choice of study program and to applicants who already have a concrete interest in the program and would like to learn more about the content and requirements.

Welcome and general information about the degree program by Prof. Sabina Dhein (B.A. Directing Acting and M.A. Directing) and Prof. David Hermann (B.A. Directing Musical Theatre and M.A. Directing)

Duration: max. 90 min.

All applicants must prove their artistic and academic aptitude for studying at the university in an entrance examination.
