What is the Feminale?

Feminale celebrates women composers and their music! Because women composers exist and have always existed—they were simply erased from music history.

With the Feminale, we aim to give female composers, their works, and their stories lasting visibility. We want them to be naturally included in musical performance, education, and research. Because only in this way can we create an equitable and vibrant music scene that everyone can be passionate about. That’s why, for the past four years, we’ve been organizing concerts that spotlight women composers, as well as an annual festival at the HfMT.

The team

Linda Wesche, HfMT alumna, has been a member of the Feminale teamsince summer 2022. She loves discovering female composers, their stories and works and bringing them to the stage - music that is mostly performed for the first time at the HfMT and even in Hamburg!
At the Feminale , Linda takes care of the conception and organization of the concerts, as well as the spatial planning and finances.

Antonia has been particularly interested in music by female composers, their biographies and works for over 10 years and is constantly expanding her own repertoire - because she studies singing at the HfMT Hamburg and loves to discover music by women* and bring it to the stage in new concert formats and programs! She is a co-founder of Feminale and initiated the exhibition Standing Ovation - Female Composers Seen in 2023 with the desire to make female composers visible and audible !

Laura has been part of the Feminale team since fall 2024. She studies historical musicology at the University of Hamburg and loves rummaging through archives and libraries for old sheet music and documents. In addition to organizing concerts, she is mainly responsible for press relations and fundraising at Feminale . Her favorite composer at the moment is Emilie Mayer (at least as long as she is writing her master's thesis on Mayer's chamber music).

Clara is a vocal student at the HfMT. She discovered her enthusiasm for concert organization through a FSJ in the event industry, but at the same time the desire for more visibility of female composers arose in her. She is the newest member of the Feminale team.
