The study program
Elementary Music Education (EMP) at our institution combines practice- and research-oriented educational subjects with an excellent artistic education. Students major in EMP and in their instrumental or vocal major. For the major, students can choose from classical instruments, jazz, or instruments from an intercultural context.
In our small but excellent program, personalized and individual advising and intensive support are just as much a given as strong collaboration among students. There is regular exchange with EMP departments at other German educational institutions.
As part of the Innovative University’s Stage_2.0 project, the Elementary Music Education program—through its subproject “Elementary Music Practice International”— offers a certificate program of the same name for immigrant musicians and educators trained in Germany.
The program enables graduates to pursue artistic careers and, through the combination of instrumental pedagogy and Elementary Music Education, opens up a wide range of career opportunities at music schools, public schools, private organizations, cultural institutions, or as freelance professionals.
