Structure of entrance examination - partial examinations

The entrance examination for the Elementary Music Education course consists of the following partial examinations:

1st part of the examination (day 1):

  • Instrumental/vocal main subject
  • Singing and speaking
  • General music theory, ear training
  • Subsidiary subject harmony instrument (piano, guitar, harp, accordion)

(For the main instrumental subjects piano, guitar, harp and accordion,   the partial examination in the minor subject harmony instrument is omitted).

2nd part of the examination (day 2):

  • Artistic examination in the major subject Elementary Music Pedagogy
  • Pedagogical examination in the major subject Elementary Music Pedagogy incl. colloquium

After passing the first part of the examination, you will be admitted to the second part of the examination on the second day.


Details of the partial examinations

The partial artistic examination in the major subject of Elementary Music Education consists of an individual examination (short prepared artistic performance in which movement, voice, instruments and other materials may be used) in which the student's own artistic potential and strengths can be demonstrated. If required, subsequent improvisation tasks can follow. There is also a group examination (movement and rhythm examination) for which no preparation is necessary.

The pedagogical part of the examination in themain subject of elementary music pedagogy consists of a prepared teaching test with the group of competitors (approx. 5 minutes), in which a musical/movement-related content is developed with the group, as well as a colloquium (justification of professional motivation etc.).

In the instrumental/vocal main subject and in the harmony instrument minor subject, a piece may be chosen by the applicant in the sense of a "carte blanche", with which the applicant can show his/her own artistic strengths.

All classical instruments listed in the examination regulations, jazz instruments, singing and (on request) instruments from an intercultural context may be chosen as the main subject instrument.
