In addition to a worldwide network of contacts, the Hamburg University of Music and Drama also maintains special collaborations and partnerships with European institutions. By cooperating with artistic and social institutions from northern Germany, the University also opens up to broader sections of society in Hamburg, establishes contact opportunities for its students in professional practice and examines the social relevance of its teaching.

European Opera Academy

The Theaterakademie is a member of the European Opera Academy. The opera classes of several European music academies offer various specializations on this platform. In this way, students can get to know the broad spectrum of European opera training through guest semesters.

École des Écoles

The Theaterakademie is a member of the European network école des écoles. The focus of this association is the further training of teachers and the further development of contemporary theater training. The focus of the current discourse is research on the topic of Artistic entrepreneurship.

Jeki - An instrument for every child

Behind this ambitious title lies a program that accompanies primary school children into the fascinating world of music. It introduces them to active music-making and encourages them to learn an instrument of their choice. The first pilot schools started using the curriculum developed by the University of Music and Drama back in 2007. The project is now running at over 70 schools in Hamburg in cooperation with the Ministry of Schools and Vocational Training. An example of our guiding principle of social responsibility in action.

Network of music universities

The university has been a founding member of the Network of Universities of Music since 2012. Since 2021, Network 4.0 has been funded as a nationwide joint project with 18 universities of music in the 'Strengthening university teaching through digitization' program of the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching. The network works and organizes itself in eleven sub-projects in order to jointly develop the potential of digitalization for studying and teaching at conservatoires.
