Doctorate

Ph.D. in Theater Studies (Dr. phil.)

It has recently become possible to pursue a doctoral degree in Theater Studies at the HfMT. Until now, the focus of activities at the Theater Academy had been on the artistic practice of the various degree programs (Acting, Directing, Dramaturgy, Opera Singing). With the appointment of Prof. Dr. Miriam Dreysse, Theater Studies has been firmly established in the Theater Academy’s teaching and research programs and has subsequently been incorporated into the HfMT’s doctoral regulations (leading to a Dr. phil. degree). A doctoral degree in Theater Studies will be available starting in the summer semester of 2027 (application deadline: December 15, 2026).
