The concept
Each of the two tunnels of the St. Pauli Elbtunnel extends over a length of 430 meters. For the multimedia concerts on 25 and 26 May 2019, 144 musicians will be distributed 6 meters apart in each of the two tunnels - the St. Pauli Elbtunnel will become an 860-metre-long musically active area. In order to synchronize the instrumentalists and singers over such a long distance, tablet-based scores are used, which are individually controlled in real time by a server computer. Each performer receives an independent score voice on the tablet using specially developed software. To minimize latency, a network system connects the 144 tablets to the main server.
350 concertgoers are expected per concert, who can move freely in and between the two tubes of the Old Elbe Tunnel and thus enjoy a very individual concert experience.

Artistic Director
Prof. Dr. Georg Hajdu, Professor of Multimedia Composition.

All participating instrumentalists and singers will receive an expense allowance of 50 EURO.

The concert program/pieces
For the concerts in the St. Pauli Elbtunnel, new pieces will be composed that take up the special acoustic and spatial conditions of the tunnel. The composers include: Alvin Curran, Georg Hajdu, Jacob Sello, Rama Gottfried and HfMT students of multimedia composition. There will be two different concert programs lasting approximately one hour, both of which will be performed once per concert day.
