Impressive performances by piano and voice students at the 3rd Gustav Mahler Song Competition 2018

The Gustav Mahler Competition for Lied duos, made possible by the Hamburg Rochna Foundation, took place for the third time on Saturday, April 28, 2018 in the Forum of the HfMT. The Gustav Mahler Competition was launched in 2014 by Prof. Burkhard Kehring in order to add the missing categories "Lied accompaniment" and "Lied duo" to the broad spectrum of existing in-house competitions for the solo categories "voice" and "piano".
This year, 14 advanced piano and voice students from the HfMT took part, who formed themselves into permanent song duos as part of the "Song Interpretation" course. In addition to Gustav Mahler's songs, the competition requirements also included compositions by Franz Schubert and contemporary composers, as well as the presentation of a convincing program dramaturgy in different languages.
The jury and the advisory members of the Rochna Foundation and the Gustav Mahler Association were unanimous in their delight at the very high overall artistic standard.
In addition to the 8 main and special prizes from the Rochna Foundation, totaling 10,000 euros, the Gustav Mahler Association Hamburg awarded two special prizes in the form of honored concert engagements.
Two song duos were particularly successful, winning several special prizes in addition to the two shared 1st Duo Prizes:
The duo Megumi Kuroda/Irina Bogdanova (1st prize ex aequo / special prize contemporary song / special prize of the GMV Hamburg) and the duo Daan Boertien/Geng Li (1st prize ex aequo /
