Pre-selection jury nominates eight entries for final round

The pre-selection jury of D-bü, the competition for students at German music academies, has come together to select the finalists. The special thing about the competition is the focus on new, unusual and innovative concert formats, and the deliberate difference to the classical music competition. An approach that was also very well received this year. The jury, consisting of six very different representatives of the cultural scene, had to review a total of 35 entries from 18 music academies after the official application deadline. Prof. Elmar Lampson, Artistic Director of D-bü in 2020, was delighted with the applications submitted: "Especially in times of corona, we didn't expect such a response. The wealth of original and innovative applications naturally didn't make the pre-selection process any easier for us." Prof. Dr. Susanne Rode-Breymann, Chairwoman of the Rectors' Conference of German Universities of Music, is also delighted that the new competition, which is funded by the BMBF and hosted by one of the 24 German universities of music, has met with such great interest from the universities.

Eight entries were nominated by the jury for the final and all of them have one thing in common: these creative concert ideas will not be mainstream classical music. Unusual venues also promise a completely new concert experience, which can be experienced from November 26 to 29 in Hamburg.
The nominees are: Ensemble Mosatrïc "Amuse*d" from the Berlin University of the Arts, Oliver Shermacher "Clarinet Cabaret" from the Freiburg University of Music, Natyra Elezi, Samuel Cho "Skin: be[neath/yond], within" from the Munich University of Music and Drama, Ensemble des Ausbildungsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr "Neues Düsseldorfer Modell(NDM)" from the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf, Oops "Oops! I droppedmyanchor" from the Cologne University of Music and Dance, #kamm_over_beeth_oven "#BeethovenUndWir..." from the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and two contributions from the Nuremberg University of Music: NEO BIG BANG "THE HELL IS REAL" and StimmImpuls "dialoguewith a rose"
