Problem-based learning
CURIOSITY/RESEARCH/FOCUS/PRESENTATION
Prof. Hans-Georg Spiegel| General instrumental didactics | WiSe 2023/2024The aim of the course in the winter semester is to thoroughly work on and illuminate a topic relevant to AID. The four-step approach above describes the procedure very well. Choose a topic from the list of topics that interests you. Find like-minded people, get together and get started. Problem-based learning stands for self-determined and discovery-based learning, action-oriented teaching, interdisciplinary learning and self-evaluation. Participants learn to analyze a topic or question, find and use appropriate sources of information and finally compare, select and implement solutions.(...) Participants are expected to take initiative and thus engage in self-directed learning. (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problembasiertes_Lernen accessed 21.02.2023 10:10)
Students become specialists in their field
Students decide on their own focus within their topic
Students present responsibly for their fellow studentsThere is time for questions with the professor when the timetable allows - the time allocation is up to the groups
Organization / Procedure
Division into groups of four. (3-5 is also possible)
- Find a topic.
- Register for the topic on Moodle from September 28.
- Develop a form of organization for the group and document it regularly. Meetings and individual studies are documented to ensure that the CP value is achieved. (The course has 2 CP, which means a total of 60 hours - however, hours for self-study of the other presentations must of course also be included, so that you end up with approx. 40 hours)
- Identify focal points or subtopics. Define distribution and tasks. It is also best to decide on the form of presentation
- One form of organization could be to meet online every two weeks and exchange the results achieved in the meantime. It is important that it is clear that everyone is responsible for everything.
- Research: There are literature tips, but they can also be changed depending on the group's inclination and focus.
- Set times for exchanges within the group (see also timetable)
- Explicit advice for international students: Please do your research in your own language and translate the results afterwards (deepl, google etc.)
If AI is used, this must be indicated. It should also be documented to what extent AI has supported your own thought process.
Schedule
At this point there is a rough overview. Procrastination leads to stress, stress is not a good learning companion. Please organize yourselves as you would for a band or chamber music project. "Without rehearsing to the top" is unfortunately a myth...
October:
Find a group and topic. It is best to divide up the research
December
Present interim results at a meeting with Prof. Spiegel and discuss the next steps.
January:
Start writing the text on the contents of the presentation
February/March:
Everything should be uploaded by March 10.
FROM MARCH:
The presentations on the other topics will be worked on in self-study in free time.Forms of presentation
- Powerpoint presentation. During the presentation, there should be a lecture on the topic parallel to the slides.
In addition, a PDF document with the contents of the group work. The document should document the approach, the work process and the result. Length 8-10 pages of 2500 characters each. The members' contributions to the process must be documented.
- Create a podcast. You can choose the form yourself
In addition, a PDF document with the content of the group work. The document should document the procedure, the work process and the result. Length 8-10 pages of 2500 characters each. The members' contributions to the process must be documented.
- Produce a short movie, approx. 5-10 min.
In addition, a PDF document with the content of the group work. The document should document the procedure, the work process and the result. Length 8-10 pages of 2500 characters each.
