- Description
The seminar aims to provide an insight into the social and intellectual context, the musical and historical sources and the early performance and reception history of Monteverdi's Orfeo (1607). The production of normative genre concepts, cultural-political models and historiographical discourses will also be scrutinized using this work as an example, as L'Orfeo (as the supposed first opera in music history) became one of the most commented musical works.
The project seminar will take place as part of the semi-staged performance of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo at the HfMT on January 12 and 13, 2024 (directed by Mark Tucker, Isolde Kitter-Zerer, Catharina Lühr) and will therefore take place as a block event between November and December 2023. The aim is the musicologically supported preparation, conception and implementation of a concert introduction of approx. 45 minutes, which is to be held by the students before the performances. Validation will take place through active participation and group work in one of the two concert introductions, for which an innovative music education concept will be developed.
Each session is divided into two blocks. The first block (17:00-18:30) will provide input and material on L'Orfeo and is open to all interested parties (without LP). The second block (19:00-20:30) serves to prepare the introductions by the students (2 LP).
