- Description
[The seminar is offered by Simon Asmus, who will be a research assistant in musicology from October 1].
How is piano music transformed when it is played in an orchestra? This seminar is dedicated to various examples of orchestration practice, its creation, technique and reception.
In addition to well-known examples such as Schönberg's and Webern's arrangements of Bach works, Mottl's Wesendonck Lieder or Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, we also want to get to know and discuss lesser-known and sometimes curious orchestrations such as Listz's orchestral version of the Wanderer Fantasy, Glazunov's Chopiniana or Weingartner's Hammerklavier Sonata. You are welcome to bring your own pieces!
A look at piano works received in jazz music is also planned.
