Since 30.08.2014, the HfMT has been licensed as a "family-friendly university" and has since been working on making the study and working conditions more family-friendly based on various fields of action. The consolidation of childcare at the HfMT has been a major focus within these fields of action from the very beginning.

The audit is designed as a multi-stage process. The first audit (3 years) is followed by the first re-audit. This stringent process is aimed at increasing the organization's self-management of the issue of reconciling work, family and private life. In short: the organization grows with the audit. And: the audit adapts to the organization.

Artistic excellence in social responsibility is the leitmotif for the work of the Hamburg University of Music and Drama. One aspect of social responsibility is the compatibility of career or studies and family. This is regarded as an essential part of the university culture, with family seen as a facet of the diversity of lifestyles and life paths of students and employees. The university strives to ensure that artistic, professional and private development opportunities can be integrated as part of life. The freedom of personal designs and the acceptance of these is a central aspect of this. University members of all status groups should be encouraged to find and pursue their own personal career path. The university assumes the role of a partner that makes demands and provides freedom. The positive culture should manifest itself through an empathetic and alert interest in people, especially for families. The establishment of a corresponding culture of interaction is seen as a process that must be shaped together. With the family-friendly university audit, the HfMT has given its family-friendly culture a framework and continues to develop it further. In line with the "Optimization" re-audit process, the emphasis is on further sustainable anchoring and comprehensive penetration.

In the future, the HfMT would like to support partners of professors appointed to the HfMT in their search for suitable job offers in Hamburg and the surrounding area (see the HfMT's Gender Equality Concept 2018). "Dual Career Services" are offered at many German universities and are considered an important success factor in the competition for excellent academics and artists. To this end, the HfMT has joined the "Dual Career Hamburg + the North" network under the patronage of Science Senator Katharina Fegebank.
