University President Prof. Elmar Lampson on the reopening: "The relocation of our university back to the Alster, to the extensively renovated rooms on Harvestehuder Weg, fills us all with great joy and gratitude. A spirit of optimism can be felt everywhere, which exudes a zest for action and will certainly inspire productivity and innovation in teaching and organization. We have the city to thank for this, which has spent around 30 million euros on this extensive refurbishment. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. I would particularly like to thank the Senator and Second Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Ms. Katharina Fegebank, for her tireless support.
The 18 new practice rooms that Prof. Dr. h.c. Hannelore Greve gave us for our return. After the new library building in 2005 and the restoration of the "Fanny Hensel Hall" in the Budge-Palais in 2007, this is another very generous gift for which the university is extremely grateful to our esteemed patron Hannelore Greve.
Finally, I would like to thank the Thörl Foundation for donating an extremely valuable concert grand piano to the university, which will give our re-entry the necessary, special sound and enrich the university's instrument collection enormously."
Katharina Fegebank, Senator for Science, Research and Equality: "I am delighted that the HfMT is returning to its old home on the Alster after two and a half years. The HfMT has proven that it can do more than just improvise musically. I would like to thank all the staff for their patience and cooperation: moving out and moving back in were a logistical masterpiece in equal measure. A lot has happened here in the meantime: the façade shines in new splendor, the Veranstaltungsforum has modern stage technology and the building has been renovated to improve its energy efficiency. Above all, I am delighted to have 18 new rooms for the students. I would like to thank the honorary citizen of Hamburg, Prof. Dr. h.c. Hannelore Greve. The modernizations and additional space will support the excellent education of future artists and further improve the study conditions on site."
The City of Hamburg has provided around 30 million euros for the core refurbishment, which will take two and a half years. The buildings, which were built in the 1970s, were adapted to the latest energy and safety standards. The Forum, which seats around 460 spectators for concerts and opera performances, was also equipped with the latest stage, lighting and sound technology.
The public will have the opportunity to get to know the new premises at free daily events during the Forum Festival, which runs from October 18 to 29. The detailed program can be viewed at www.hfmt-hamburg.de/Veranstaltungen.
