For almost six weeks now, many members of higher education institutions in Iran have been peacefully demonstrating for human rights - especially women's rights - and for freedom of expression and violence. The Hamburg University of Music and Drama strongly condemns the state violence in Iran against students and staff at universities and colleges and stands in solidarity with the courageous demonstrators who refuse to be intimidated in the face of increasing state violence.

"It is impressive to see how consistently women in Iran in particular are currently standing up not only for their own rights and free self-determination, but also for freedom of violence and freedom of expression in general. They deserve our utmost support for this courage. Universities in particular must be places where there are no bans on thought and no violence. This is especially true for the arts," says HfMT President Jan Philipp Sprick.

The HfMT declares its solidarity not only with the people living in Iran, but also with the people from Iran who are currently living in Germany and who are very worried about their relatives and friends.

Enclosed is an artistic contribution by Muriel Razaviwho won a special prize in the _D-buecompetition for students at German music universities for an outstanding program with particular social relevance. The program consists exclusively of works by female composers from the Iranian Female Composers Association (IFCA), whose artistic works are a hymn to freedom of art and expression.
