Grand Summer Opera 2026 celebrates double premiere: "The Magic Flute" by Mozart - on May 24 & 26 at the Forum of the HfMT Hamburg; performances until June 23

In a divided world, Tamino and Pamina are caught up in the power struggle between the Queen of the Night and her rival Sarastro. In this play of contrasts, Mozart's The Magic Flute becomes a laboratory of identities. With great emotional directness, Mozart's music provides a deep insight into the souls of his characters. When the members of the opera class slip into the roles and transform into them, they also tell a lot about themselves in this story of initiation and coming-of-age. The ensemble of the Master's Opera course graduates with Mozart's masterpiece - and the stage of the Forum becomes an open space for transformation. The Magic Flute is the ideal challenge for our students to prepare for the transition to a professional theater career.

The work offers the perfect roles for the two singing cohorts of our university's Master's in Opera to raise their own profiles. The exceptionally talented group can bring all their vocal and acting skills to bear and grow with their demanding roles in the process of rehearsals and the nine performances. They will be accompanied on their journey by an experienced conductor such as Willem Wentzel, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and a sought-after director such as Christian Poewe - both are professors at the Theaterakademie and are developing the production together with young creatives from our friendly cooperation with the HAW and HFBK.

Tickets for both premieres are still available at the box office.
