Professor Martin Gregorius' organ class enjoyed a musically inspired trip to the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia. A course entitled "COM`IN" (Composition, Improvisation and Interpretation) took place there in cooperation with the music academies in Cologne, Gdansk and Cagliari. This was financed by an Erasmus grant from the EU.

The following is a short report from Prof. Martin Gregorius
"The anticipation was huge, both for the different organs and for the input from the workshops. We spent three of the five course days at the university in Cagliari. The course mainly took place on the large organ in the auditorium. There we had instructive lessons with the various professors. The improvisation lessons were particularly interesting. At the end, there was even a group improvisation on the organ and piano in the modern style of the composer Olivier Messiaen. The first days at the conservatory ended with a concert in which students from all the universities took part.
The next morning, two lectures on the composers Olivier Messiaen and Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil were on the program. Both lectures were very exciting and provided a good balance to the practical music-making. We had a few hours free in the afternoon, which we spent in the picturesque cafés, shopping or simply relaxing. In the evening we had a concert on an Italian opera organ in a church in the center of Cagliari. The organ was very special as there was a glockenspiel and a timpani in addition to the traditional stops. These could be used perfectly in the old Italian repertoire. This concert was also a complete success!
On Friday morning, we set off early by bus to Orani, a town about three hours north of Cagliari. There we visited an art museum with paintings and sculptures by the Sardinian artist Nivola. We were particularly impressed by his sculptures. After a hearty lunch, we walked to the church where we had a concert in the evening. We also had a few lessons on the Italian baroque organ. We arrived back in Cagliari by bus late in the evening, exhausted but satisfied. The next morning we had a trip to a park with flamingos, peacocks and lots of other birds.
Then it was time for the big farewell, with lots of warm hugs. Era bellissimo!"
