What moves the cultural and media scene?
Thursday, 01/25/2024 19:30 HfMT, Mendelssohn-Saal

Why do we need public service broadcasting when there is an infinite amount of content available on the internet?
Keynote speech with moderated discussion
Dr. Katrin Vernau
Administrative Director of WDR

Social discourses and phenomena are reflected in culture and the media, while at the same time their actors, producers and platforms actively shape them. They offer areas of friction to engage with the present, reflect on the past in order to imagine the new and the future, often provide comfort, also provide distraction and can offer support in crises. But how can cultural and media professionals provide access to all people in times of social polarization? How do they deal with changing demands and needs?
We ask questions and invite renowned representatives of the cultural and media scene to the podium: what visions do they follow and what trends and discourses do they have in mind? In personal discussions, they give us an insight into their sphere of activity and allow us a look behind the scenes.

The evenings will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Regina Back , Managing Director of the Claussen Simon Foundation, and Prof. Manuel J. Hartung , Chairman of the Executive Board of the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. Both are lecturers at the Institute for Cultural and Media Management at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama.

The events are open to the public and admission is free. Participation is only possible after prior registration, please send an e-mail to julia.patton@hfmt-hamburg.de
