Day 2
Textiles as tools for thinking: From traditional natural fibers to high-tech textiles, we examine the potential of textile materials for new forms of knowledge. In a playful and open approach to materials, we discover differences and similarities between different disciplines. The focus is on experience - through practical work, learning, evaluating materials and discussing the subtle nuances of material behavior. Textiles serve here as a medium for deep, haptic thinking.

Welcome
10:10 - 11:20
The thread unwinds... - Tracing the thread
We take a look at the origins of textile materials. Where does the thread unwind - and where does it lead?
Between fiber portraits, sound interventions and a look at global textile flows, we explore the ecological, social and aesthetic dimensions of what we wear on our skin every day. Which fibers shape our present - and which will shape our future?
With Prof. Dr. Markus Oberthür (HAW)
11:30 - 12:45
Stoffe des Lebens - Kleidung im Kreislauf, Fabric of Life - Circular Clothing
Our clothing is part of our biography - it accompanies us, forms memories and leaves traces, not only on our skin. At the same time, it is part of global cycles of production, consumption and disposal. In this block, we will approach clothing as a personal and political material: we will tell the stories of our own garments, learn about the cradle-to-cradle approach as a vision for a circular textile economy and ask: how can clothing be designed in such a way that it contributes to the cycle rather than the crisis?
With Christiane Schadow (Cradle to Cradle, Bündnis Textil)
13:45 - 16:15
Textile transformations
Textiles are more than just a surface - they are carriers of history, culture and the future. In this program block, we will focus on the transformation of textile materials: from flax as a regionally rooted crop to new perspectives on sustainable fibers in contemporary textile design to modular textile room systems for a recyclable stage. Between ecological responsibility, creative innovation and political dimensions, we explore how material can become a narrative, a space for action and a vision.
With Renata Brink (HAW), Urs Dierker (circular costume design) and rescene (HfbK Dresden research group)
16:30 - 18:30
Textile knowledge lives in hands, movements and materials - workshops
In this open workshop area, various stations invite visitors to try out textile techniques in practice, engage in conversation with each other and rediscover materials. Whether dyeing with natural residues such as onion skins or walnut shells, stamping, sewing, felting, embroidering, knitting or designing the textile space - every gesture tells a story.
19:00
Co-creative lecture performance TEXTILE LANDSCAPES
How can the global textile network be told on stage? Where do global clothing routes run? What stories do our garments carry? And what remains when we take them off? What do the aesthetics of the textile remnants tell us?
Between body, clothing, consumption and the question of colonial continuities, a poetic and political journey is created along the textile life cycle - from the cotton field to the garbage dump.
Concluding with a drink

"Thinking through Materialities" is more than just an event - it is an invitation to research, question and create together. Open to all curious people who are prepared not only to use materials, but also to think (through) them.
A registration is necessary.
