A new way to improvise II
Saturday, 01/17/2026 10:30 - 16:00 HfMT, JazzHall

With the IkI Innovation Lab, the Institute for Cultural Innovation Research is launching a new format that interactively presents new trends in the international jazz scene.
Pianist Florian Weber, who is rooted in both the European avant-garde and modern jazz, is this year's artist in residence. At the center of the reflection is his theory of ImproPosition, a new way of inventing and creating music, be it in the field of contemporary jazz, world music, contemporary classical music or electronic music.

Florian Weber, born in 1977, studied classical piano in Vienna Detmold, jazz in Boston, New York and San Diego. He released his first album in 2006, which won the German Record Critics' Award. In 2013 he was awarded the Jazz Echo and in 2020 received the Belmont Prize for Contemporary Music from the Schneider Vorbach Foundation. In 2025 he was named second best Rising Star - Keyboarder of the Year by Downbeat magazine.

The following experts have also been invited to the Innovation Lab 2026 Asya Fateyeva, Clara Haberkamp, Wolf Kerschek, Michael Kiedaisch, and Anna-Lena, Schnabel. They will reflect on the new trends in the art of improvisation.
