Thursday, 04/16/2026 11:00 OPERA STABILE der Hamburgischen Staatsoper

Instrumental theater for the whole family: The opera stabile transforms into a spaceship and takes the audience on a journey into the cosmos. The trumpeter Michael and his crew travel through the infinite expanses of space and discover all kinds of unknown things.

Elisabeth Stöppler's production Stockhausen for Children: Michael's Journey gives children from the age of 6 as well as adults sensory access to Karlheinz Stockhausen's cycle Licht, a monumental work of the recent musical avant-garde. Together with Michael, played by a solo trumpet, the audience embarks on a fantastic journey around the world, diving deep into the infinite vastness of the universe and into rarely heard sounds.

Soloist version of Michael's journey for one trumpeter, 9 players and sound director from Thursday of Light. Music, libretto, actions and gestures by Karlheinz Stockhausen (1978/84)
