2026 Thesis in Theater Directing by Niyousha Azari
Friday, 06/26/2026 18:00 Thalia Gaußstraße, Studiobühne

In a narrow stream, carried along by the tides and the fisherman’s net,
the little fish lives with his mother. When he decides to set out,
a search begins: for identity, belonging, and home.
What does it mean to have to leave a place where there is
staying is no longer possible, and arriving at a place that has no
room for you? Between memory, loss, and hope, this work tells the story of being in-between: no longer belonging to the past, being a stranger in the present, and reaching for the future in the air. It tells stories of people whose lives are connected to the
act of leaving a country—stories of migration, flight, and exile.

Inspired by the book The Little Black Fish by Samad Behrangi.

JUSTICE should be the foundation of every system, every relationship;
anything else makes no sense, is inhumane, and destroys
the very basis of our existence. But what are we talking about when we talk about justice,
and who gets to speak? Is justice a visionary
utopia, an empty buzzword, or rather a matter of interpretation that can be exploited?
Based on these questions, the five graduates of the
directing program discuss what they believe should be told on this topic.
