Offers

For parents studying at the HfMT and on request, a subsidy for babysitting costs has been available since the winter semester 2017/18. A babysitter allowance of max. 320 euros per semester and family can be applied for to enable student parents to provide more flexible and individual care for their children: for emergencies, during rehearsal phases and concerts, for care outside the regular daycare/crèche hours, etc. However, there is no legal entitlement to this.

The aim of the offer is to support student parents in financing childcare and thus further improve the compatibility of family and studies. To apply for the subsidy, a consultation/registration at the Family Office must be arranged in advance.

Since fall 2023, a so-called family room has been available to all members of the HfMT for the independent care of children during rehearsals, concerts, block seminars or simply for a stay in between. This is located next to the children's group rooms in room U17 in the basement of the Budge-Palais, with direct access to the garden. The room offers an opportunity to linger: with a children's table, sleeping area, comfortable armchair, high chair, rocker, changing table and an opportunity to warm up food you have brought with you.

Students and employees of the HfMT with child(ren) can register once at the Family Office to use the family room. The room can then be booked independently via the ASIMUT room booking system.

The family room is also used by the Pusteblümchen children's group during the day and is therefore only available on weekdays outside the opening hours of the Pusteblümchen children's group (usually Mon-Thu from 8 am to 3 pm) and all day on Fridays and weekends.

Due to the shared use of the premises of the Pusteblümchen children's group, the signing of a usage agreement is therefore obligatory.

Since the 2017/18 winter semester, students and staff at the University of Music and Drama have been able to look after children in a permanent children's group. Following extensive renovation of the premises in the basement of the Budge-Palais, they now shine in new splendor and can also be accessed at ground level through the university garden.

In November 2023, daycare staff Sabine Kortlang and Heike Platz will take over the management of the children's group for children aged ten months to three years. Sabine Kortlang has been working in daycare for 20 years, is a family nurse, founder of the creative workshop for children and a Maria Montessori teacher. Her colleague Heike Platz is a trained educator, remedial teacher and systemic consultant.

"Our aim is to enable the children to make as gentle a transition as possible from exclusive parental care to the turbulent life of a daycare center. We see nature as an ideal space for experiences, which is why we focus on spending the mornings outside our rooms. Free play, which we observe and supervise, also plays an important role in our pedagogy. Through recurring rituals, we provide the children with orientation and security.
We look forward to getting to know you! "

The Pusteblümchen have been around for many years in Winterhude, and now they are opening their doors to the youngest children at the HfMT!

The regular care hours are Mon-Thu between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., but individual arrangements regarding drop-off and pick-up times can be made with the Pusteblümchen directors, and the care does not have to be used every day. As childcare is subsidized by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, a daycare voucher is required. 30 hours per week are generally free of charge. If required, the parents then pay a proportionate share of the costs, depending on the family income.

As Sabine Kortlang and Heike Platz have to match the children's group according to age, gender and childcare needs, there is no legal entitlement to this. However, the Pusteblümchen look forward to your inquiries and to getting to know you and your children!

Audit family-friendly university

The HfMT has been licensed as a "family-friendly university" since 30.08.2014 and has since been working on making the study and working conditions more family-friendly based on various fields of action. The consolidation of childcare at the HfMT has been a major focus within these fields of action from the very beginning.

The audit is designed as a multi-stage process. The first audit (3 years) is followed by the first re-audit. This stringent process is aimed at increasing the organization's self-management of the issue of reconciling work, family and private life. In short: the organization grows with the audit. And: the audit adapts to the organization.

Artistic excellence in social responsibility is the leitmotif for the work of the Hamburg University of Music and Drama. One aspect of social responsibility is the compatibility of career or studies and family. This is regarded as an essential part of the university culture, with family seen as a facet of the diversity of lifestyles and life paths of students and employees. The university strives to ensure that artistic, professional and private development opportunities can be integrated as part of life. The freedom of personal designs and the acceptance of these is a central aspect of this. University members of all status groups should be encouraged to find and pursue their own personal career path. The university assumes the role of a partner that makes demands and provides freedom. The positive culture should manifest itself through an empathetic and alert interest in people, especially for families. The establishment of an appropriate culture of interaction is seen as a process to be shaped together. With the family-friendly university audit, the HfMT has given its family-friendly culture a framework and continues to develop it further. In line with the "Optimization" re-audit process, the emphasis is on further sustainable anchoring and comprehensive penetration.
