The study program

The "Claviorganum" course is an MA programme that specializes in keyboard music of the 16th-18th centuries on the instruments widely used during this period (primarily harpsichord, clavichord and organ).

This Master's program is aimed at top-class young musicians who wish to study keyboard music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods in depth. The aim is to create a natural connection and cross-fertilization between the different historical keyboard instruments harpsichord, clavichord and organ. These cross-connections were a matter of course in the 16th-18th centuries and enable a deeper understanding of this repertoire. The aim is to achieve an outstanding level on all these keyboard instruments, to achieve the greatest possible stylistic differentiation and to impart a comprehensive knowledge of the aesthetic and historical environment in the 16th-18th centuries.

This Master's program is offered by the HfMT Hamburg (1st, 2nd and 4th semester) and the "Prins Claus Conservatorium" Groningen (3rd semester). The unique organ landscape in northern Germany and the Groningen area and the important keyboard instrument collections in these regions (Beuermann Collection, Organeum, etc.) offer ideal conditions for this. The focus of this Master's program is therefore on the study of North German and Dutch music of the 16th-18th centuries - but other stylistic areas such as Italian, French and Bach music also play an important role.

Additional courses such as seminars, musicological projects, historical performance practice, vocal ensembles, etc. provide students with the broadest possible spectrum of Renaissance and Baroque music.

The 3rd semester is organized via an Erasmus exchange. For more information, please contact the International Office (Ms. Katharina Strauer):
