Trumpet entrance exam

The application period for the summer semester 2025 begins on 01.12.24 and ends on 10.01.25 (only applies to the postgraduate course Konzertexamen). For the winter semester 2025/26, the application period begins on 15.02.25 and ends on 01.04.25

For a successful application to the instrumental music trumpet course, the following steps are required within the application deadline:

• Receipt of online application incl. upload of supporting documents
• Receipt of application fee (payment information at the end of the completed online application)
• Upload video

Your application will only be considered if all the steps described have been completed in full within the application deadline and the online application and application fee have been received.

After pre-selection based on the videos submitted, a decision will be made as to who can be invited to the on-site entrance exam.

The following works must be prepared as repertoire for the entrance examination:

• 2 works from different eras
  (e.g. Trumpet Concerto in E flat (E) major - J.N. Hummel / Trumpet Concerto - A. Arutjunjan)

The works do not have to be performed by heart.

The video for the pre-selection must contain a representative selection of the entrance examination program. The video should be approximately 20 minutes long.

The video must include a 3-minute self-voiced announcement in German in which you explain your motivation for studying and present your CV and program.

The video must be uncut and unedited, the pieces will be played without repetitions. The video should be recorded from a fixed camera angle: The applicant's body and face must be fully visible at all times.

• the format is correct (=mp4)
• the video can be opened without errors
• the video is correctly named (surname.firstname.applicationnumber.program.mp4)

To help you prepare for the exams in the subsidiary subjects of general music theory and aural training, we offer you some sample exams.

The works do not have to be performed from memory.

A representative selection of the entrance examination program must be prepared for the video. The video should be approx. 20 minutes long.

A complete repertoire must be prepared:
1. a complete solo or chamber music program containing important works from at least three epochs relevant to the chosen instrument
and
2. a concerto with orchestra (orchestral part to be played by a second piano).
