Trumpet entrance exam

The application period for the 2027 summer semester begins on December 1, 2026, and ends on January 10, 2027 (applies only to the postgraduate concert exam program). For the 2027–28 winter semester, the application period begins on February 15, 27, and ends on April 1, 27.

To successfully apply for the Instrumental Music (Trumpet) program, the following steps must be completed within the application period:

• Submission of the online application, including upload of supporting documents
• Receipt of the application fee (payment information is provided at the end of the completed online application)
• Upload of a video link

Your application will only be considered if all the steps described above are completed in full within the application period and both the online application and the application fee have been received.

After a preliminary selection based on the submitted videos, a decision will be made regarding who will be invited to the on-site entrance exam.

The second round of the entrance exam is expected to take place on 03.06.2026 in presence.

The following works must be prepared as repertoire for the entrance examination:

• 2 works from different eras
  (e.g. Trumpet Concerto in E flat (E) major - J.N. Hummel / Trumpet Concerto - A. Arutjunjan).

The works do not have to be performed by heart.

The video for the pre-selection must contain a representative selection of the entrance examination program. The video should be approximately 20 minutes long.

The video must include a 3-minute self-voiced announcement in German in which you explain your motivation for studying and present your CV and program.

The video must be uncut and unedited, the pieces are played without repetitions. The video should be recorded from a fixed camera angle: The applicant's body and face must be fully visible at all times.

• the format is correct (=mp4)
• the video can be opened without errors
• the video is correctly named (surname.firstname.applicationnumber.program.mp4)

To help you prepare for the exams in the subsidiary subjects of general music theory and aural training, we offer you some sample exams.

The following works must be prepared as repertoire for the entrance examination:

• 3 works from 3 different eras

The works do not have to be performed from memory.

A representative selection of the entrance examination program must be prepared for the video. The video should be approximately 20 minutes long.

A complete repertoire must be prepared:
1. a complete solo or chamber music program containing important works from at least three epochs relevant to the chosen instrument
and
2. a concerto with orchestra (orchestral part to be played by a second piano).
