Description

The seminar will provide an initial insight into various epochs of European theater history from Greek antiquity to the 20th century. The focus will be on the political-social contexts and social functions of theater as well as on the aesthetic means and aspects of content. We will also gain an insight into non-European forms of theater, probably through guest lectures by experts.

Due to the amount of information, this seminar will partly have the character of a lecture. In preparation, we will read play or theoretical texts on selected epochs, which will then be discussed together.
