Biography
Mari Fukumoto is one of the most sought-after organists of our time. Born in Tokyo in 1987, she now maintains a busy concert schedule on major organs and is a regular guest at numerous international concert halls. She performs with outstanding orchestras such as the City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Warsaw National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

Mari Fukumoto studied at the National University of Arts and Music in her hometown and continued her training at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama under Prof. Wolfgang Zerer . She has won a number of major competitions, including first prizes in 2014 at the Daniel Herz Competition in Brixen and the Agati Tronci Competition in Pistoia, Italy. Her debut album was released by Naxos that same year; a CD recording with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra was released in 2022. In 2024, her solo CD, recorded on the Huß-Schnitger organ in Stade, was released.

From 2019 to 2023, Mari Fukumoto taught as an artistic associate at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar; from 2022 to 2024, she served as the principal substitute for the vacant organist position at the Frauenkirche in Dresden, and subsequently as a visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. Since the winter semester of 2026, she has been teaching as a professor of church music with a focus on the organ at the University of Music at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
