A project by 6th semester drama students
mentored by Philipp Hauß
When you're alone, and life is making you lonely
You can always go
Downtown
When you've got worries, all the noise and the hurry
Seems to help, I know
Downtown
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?
It all started with a feeling. The quiet walk home after a loud night, the brief retreat to the toilet in the middle of a raucous party, the threshold between collective excess and taking a solitary deep breath.
We then set ourselves the task of exploring two states of being - that of loneliness and that of intoxication. States that are primarily perceived in their negative, destructive form. In the course of our research, we set off, observed, interviewed and let ourselves go. At the end of this journey, the main questions that are explored here together with the audience are: are there different types of intoxication, such as the difference between working off in order to be fit and calm again and wasting life energy in shared freedom? Are intoxication and loneliness necessarily antipodes? How do we get intoxicated? Is loneliness isolation or happy aloneness? And above all: can we experience intoxication on stage or does intoxication mean falling out of the action?
