An exciting concert evening in two parts: As part of the FatJazz series, established European improvisational artists meet the creative voices of the next generation of jazz musicians at the HfMT Hamburg.

Set 1 – KAUFMANN | GRATKOWSKI | DE JOODE

For over two decades, the Kaufmann / Gratkowski / de Joode trio has been one of the most distinguished ensembles on the free improvisation scene. Their music emerges entirely in the moment—without rehearsals or prior arrangements—yet with astonishing depth, precision, and sonic subtlety. Blending contemporary chamber music, free jazz energy, and the exploration of sonic boundaries, they create a musical cosmos that has garnered international acclaim. The trio has toured throughout Europe, North America, Australia, and Southeast Asia—and their numerous recordings impressively document this intense collaboration.

Set 2 – JazzHall Ensemble

The JazzHall Ensemble brings together selected master’s students from the jazz program at the HfMT Hamburg. Under the direction of Gabriel Coburger, the musicians meet regularly for intensive rehearsals to develop their own compositions into complex, modern arrangements. The result is a multi-layered, stylistically diverse set—full of energy, courage, and sonic curiosity.
