Lecture-Performance and Christmas-Dancefloor (Seminar "Cultural Studies Hip Hop")
Thursday, 12/18/2025 18:00 HfMT, Multifunktionsstudio

The musical work of US hip hop producer J Dilla (1974-2006) remains relevant. With the help of digital sampling technology, the exceptional musician from Detroit, Michigan has succeeded in creating an analog image of musical time that defies any form of Eurocentric 'measurability'.
We are dedicating an artistic-scientific lecture performance to "Jay Dee" with many musical examples and will then present contributions that were developed in the "Cultural Studies" seminar together with students from the HFMT and other Hamburg universities.
Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to combine Christmas anticipation with dancing research based on a vinyl set with tracks by J Dilla.
Come along and enjoy!

6 pm - Lecture performance with Jan Schlüter and Dr. Benjamin Sprick
6:45 pm - Presentations by students of the "Cultural Studies Hip Hop" seminar
7:30 pm - Gathering and Christmas dancefloor with Slim Schlüdy at the HfMT controls
