MUSIC IN OUR DIGITAL AGE
Thursday, 05/14/2026 12:00 - 21:00 Off-ICMC/ICMC - verschiedene Spielstätten

Music is what connects us, even when everything else separates us.
Music is everywhere - it accompanies us in our everyday lives. But we experience it less and less when it is played live on analog instruments. Instead, it often comes from loudspeakers or headphones, from files, from the cloud.
What is music for you? What does it sound like today? Where does it begin, where does it end?
The ligeti center invites you to listen carefully and discover new sounds. To tinker and try things out.

For over 50 years, artists, musicians and scientists from all over the world have come together every year to explore the interplay between music and digital technologies. Now the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) is coming to Hamburg-Harburg. Selected concerts are open to the public.

The Off-ICMC will take place in parallel from 11 to 16 May 2026: the free accompanying program on the topic of "Music in our digital age".

12:00 -14:00: Rehearsal & concert visit for families
What does contemporary music sound like? How is it created in the rehearsal process? And what are the difficulties involved? We will explore these questions during a joint rehearsal and concert visit for families.

16:00 -17:30: Sound walk: Robert Cole Rizzi - The art of listening [ICMC]
Our hearing is always active, but we unconsciously filter out a lot and ignore the rich soundscape that surrounds us. This workshop invites you to listen anew and discover the creative richness of everyday sounds.

18:00 -19:00: Radio ballet: Body radio collective - Fragment
The radio ballet is an interactive performance in which the participants immerse themselves in another world with radio headphones and creatively shape the space together. By following instructions, a performance is created that surprises and challenges. This opens up new approaches to topics and creates multifaceted perspectives.

19:30 -21:00: Creative film & media highlights from the ICMC [ICMC]
In the cinema hall of the former Karstadt department store, we present a selection of current fixed media works by international participants of the International Computer Music Conference 2026. You can expect a variety of creative film and media contributions.

Installations and performances: Transition | Tension | Potential
open continuously from 10.05. - 27.05.
At the transition between tracks 3 and 4 in Harburg's long-distance train station, the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof's display cases show materials and objects in transition. They do not show finished forms, but processes and contradictions.
