Ensemble Night

Thursday, 07/16/2026 19:30 HfMT, JazzHall

One evening, two young ensembles from the HfMT:
The Modern Jazz Ensemble, led by Prof. Holger Nell, is a mainstay of the jazz program. The unusual lineup—featuring two vocalists, a violin, and a guitar—creates a distinctive ensemble sound that invites listeners to rediscover compositions by artists such as Thelonious Monk, Joe Henderson, Lennie Tristano, and Wayne Shorter. Sensitive ensemble playing, communication, drive, and a rich palette of sounds are among the ensemble’s most important ingredients.

The HfMT Percussion Ensemble is back on stage. The program centers on percussion works in varying lineups that highlight the sonic possibilities of percussion from different perspectives. In formations ranging from duos to sextets, the students explore selected percussion repertoire from the past 60 years.
