In summer 2007, the University of Music and Drama (HfMT) in Hamburg launched the project "Dem Klang auf der Spur/Jedem Kind ein Instrument" at selected elementary school in Hamburg.

The central aim of this music education concept is to introduce primary school children from Year 1 onwards to orchestral instruments and to enable them to learn to play an instrument. The focus of the lessons is on exploring the instruments without any prerequisites and making music together.

The special feature of the JeKI concept developed by the HfMT is the so-called tandem lessons, in which an instrumental teacher comes to the music lesson of the school class in cooperation with the school teacher and accompanies the children from grades 1 to 4. The children can also choose to take instrumental lessons from year 3 onwards.
