Description

The experience of beauty can be quite traumatic. It enables us to make contact with the infinite, which at the same time leads us into the depths of our (own) limitations. Accordingly, the question of ugliness is present in the aesthetic discourse on beauty. What is beautiful, what is ugly, is initially in the eyes of the beholder. At the same time, this categorization is quickly enriched with political-aesthetic meaning, which is also currently expressed in debates about body images and aesthetic power politics. The seminar reconstructs a current theory of beauty using various historical, current and absurd examples and makes it applicable to artistic practice. A final presentation is planned.
