Description

What are the humanities and why should they (still) be pursued today? What is their aesthetic and political meaning? How can humanities approaches be linked to questions of theater practice? The course attempts to raise such questions within the framework of a cursory overview of basic concepts in the humanities. A praxeological method will be pursued: Together we will develop a basic humanities vocabulary that is as provisional as it is flexible, based on an analysis of the humanities act, rather than presupposing it in advance in the form of abstract concepts. We are guided by three questions: How can I develop an adequate research question in the humanities (I. 'Thinking')? What method do I use to pursue this question (II. 'Research')? How do I finally present the results of my humanities research in writing (III. 'Writing')? Finally, in the form of an outlook, I can reflect on how the humanities and theater can be combined in scenarios of artistic research.
