The seminar serves as an introduction to essential approaches, methods and perspectives of the subject of musicology: from music historiography and biography to ethnomusicology, music anthropology and music sociology to psychology and aesthetics. What aspects can music be viewed from, what categories underlie our thinking and how is it possible to question old knowledge and "create" new knowledge in the process? This not only leads to hopefully lively and insightful discussions, but also to craftsmanship: to reference works, literature lists and footnotes - and to methods of sorting one's own thoughts, presenting them and finally formulating them in academic texts.
