The interactions between music, war and peace are close: since the beginning of European cultural history, music and sounds of all kinds have been used in acts of war, to frighten and drive away enemies, for cohesion, orientation and communication. We are all familiar with music that serves patriotism, nationalism and mobilization, as well as music that reminds us of the horrors of war, warns us and promotes peace. In the seminar, we will develop an overview from the Renaissance to the present day, with very different focal points.
