Description

On the occasion of the symposium Sinne|Sinn MIKRO|TONAL, organized by Chiffren in Kiel from 10 to 12 October, with concerts and lectures on the subject of microtonality and alternative tuning systems, we will deal with compositions and composer personalities who have found exciting ways beyond the so-called well-tempered tuning in the seminar Analyseansätze zur Neuen Musik. After a look into the past and listening to extravagant experiments with specially tuned tonal systems in antiquity, the Renaissance and the Baroque, we will turn our attention to the 20th and 21st centuries. Among others, composers such as Charles Ives, Ivan Wischnegradsky, Harry Partch, Tristan Murail, Gérard Grisey, Georg Friedrich Haas, Enno Poppe, Manfred Stahnke and Cathrine Lamb will be discussed. In the initial discussion, this selection can be expanded to include other composers if desired. We also want to compose short pieces ourselves, experiment with self-programmed tunings and present these etudes to each other.
