Description

Not only the history of opera, but also the history of staging and performance is wide-ranging. This seminar is intended to provide an introduction to the analytical tools, terminology and exact repertoire pieces at the Hamburg State Opera. This seminar is followed by the opportunity to work as a guide at the Hamburg State Opera. With the start of Tobias Kratzer's new directorship, the Hamburg State Opera is introducing the new program series FRAMING the REPERTOIRE. In talks, lectures and artistic interventions, this series explores the artistic and historical background of the Staatsoper's repertoire, placing each production in a current and historical context. Guides, students who engage in conversation with the audience and are experts on the respective production, are present at all performances. The seminar is intended to prepare students for working as guides.

Tasks of the guides:

- Accompany performances of the repertoire pieces and enter into discourse with the audience before, during and after the performance.
- Selection of repertoire pieces according to series (assignment of duties for all performances of a revival, e.g. applying for all 4 performances of the Falstaff revival).
- Preparation of the content of the opera (if possible in a seminar offered in cooperation with the Hamburg University of Music, which provides training in staging and opera history as well as in open and approachable conversation).

Prerequisites:
- Interest in musical and historical content
- Personal and self-confident interaction with the audience, good conversation skills, enjoyment of exchange
- Knowledge of German and English

Remuneration:

- 65 - 85 € per service, depending on the length of the service
- Possibility of free tickets for free distribution
- Branded Hamburg State Opera hoodie
- Letter of recommendation from the Hamburg State Opera
