Description

This two-semester course is designed for advanced-level teacher education students preparing to teach at the lower and upper secondary levels and offers an introduction to current and historical methods of musical analysis. It aims to foster a critical and independent engagement with current discourses in music analysis in order to explore ways to apply these concepts in a school setting and to develop proficiency in analysis. In addition to an intensive engagement with secondary literature—including materials from the school context—“analytical etudes” are therefore regularly performed and reflected upon to achieve the aforementioned goals. This semester focuses primarily on the canonical repertoire. The course requirement consists of a jointly organized internal final symposium, in which in-depth findings from the analytical etudes are presented.
