Description

The course covers dances from around the world, traditional dances set to music of various styles and eras, as well as children’s dances.

The focus within children’s dances is on teaching specific dance structures that, through articulation, rhythm, and structure, address the need for movement (early childhood developmental patterns) and facilitate learning through structured movement. Likewise, the focus is on the improvisational, individual development of choreographies based on the material taught.

In performative music and movement design, we draw out central creative elements from musical pieces to translate them into clearly structured choreographies. Materials with specific sound characteristics and a prompting nature serve as inspiration.
Musical forms shape the dance: ostinato, canon, variation, rondo, loops, and performative forms.

This seminar offers ideas for practical implementation with groups of various age ranges—with a focus on elementary school—as a concrete movement score, an improvisation prompt, or inspiration for instant composition in music and movement. A foundation for playful movement ideas and stories, ranging from spontaneous imagination in movement to a concretely designed performance.
