Our traditional music is interwoven with a network of recurring phrasing patterns that transcend eras and individual styles. We seek to “grasp” these patterns on the instrument. Our journey takes us through various eras and styles, allowing one’s own improvisational creativity to find expression within traditional compositions. The connection to experiences in literary interpretation, thoroughbass, and liturgical organ playing thus arises naturally. The following styles are available: mid-18th-century keyboard fantasy, suite, chaconne, Mozart/Haydn song variations, Bach-style chorale arrangements and partitas, fugue, Byrd/Sweelinck fantasy, Ländler (Schubert), mazurka and nocturne (Chopin), intermezzo (Brahms), modal forms of improvisation, and piano counterpoint studies (Debussy, Bartók).
